  Giraffes

.Giraffes grow about 4 feet (1.2 meters) in their first year of life.

.The giraffe usually sleeps standing up, because it can take too long for a giraffe to
get back up on its feet if a predator should approach.

.Giraffes have two to four short, blunt horns on their head.

.A giraffe’s tongue can be up to 21 inches (53 centimeters) long. It is also prehensile, which means it can grab and hold onto objects.

.The only natural predators of the giraffe are lions, hyenas, and wild dogs.

.Scientists used to believe that giraffes made no sound, but giraffes do make noises.

.Only male giraffes engage in fighting with other males.

.A newborn giraffe is about 6 feet (1.9 meters) tall at birth and weighs about 150 pounds (68 kilograms).

.No two giraffes have the same pattern of spots.

.Humans cannot hear some giraffe sounds, called infrasound.
